New transcripts added! Thanks to the volunteers who continue to help to reach our goal to transcribe the entire 1851/2 census - we’re just 5% from the finish line!!
March 2011 marked our 12th Anniversary! It's amazing how much has changed in just over a decade! Over the years we've been blessed with the help and dedication of hundreds of volunteers. It's only because of their hard work that we've been able to make over 900 census transcripts (more than 1.5 million people) available. Thank you to volunteers & visitors for all your help and support!!
Why continue transcribing the 1851/2 census?
It seemed a shame to quit when we're just 16% from the finish line. It was difficult enough to come to the decision to stop seeking volunteers for 1861-1911 so we kept the one we were so close to finishing (the other census years were all less than 20% complete).
What happens to transcripts of the 1861-1911 census years that are not yet completed?
That is up to each volunteer currently working on a transcript. The census project will welcome and post any Ontario census transcript for any census year, even a census from 1861-1911. Our original goal was to transcribe all Ontario census records and it's still a not-so-secret desire, so all transcripts are most welcome.
Can I still volunteer to transcribe a census from 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 or 1911?
Yes, unless that census year/area is designated as 'Being Transcribed' or 'Online'. We no longer have 'Transcriber Needed' links available for these census years, but if you really want to transcribe a census from one of these census years, we will accept & post the transcript. Just send a message to the volunteer co-ordinator with the census year, area & county you'd like to transcribe.

Since our debut in 1999 we have strived to reach the goal to transcribe every Ontario census and place the transcripts online for free viewing. With the help of numerous volunteers we have been steadily progressing towards this goal BUT help is still needed!
Our current goal is to complete our transcription of the 1851 Ontario census. Please help us reach this goal!
